These are just three phrases we hear over and over at The Massage Hub:
“I had a massage once. Never again.”
“I don’t like massages. They hurt.”
“I feel self-conscious when I have a massage.”
Naturally, we want to address these concerns, so pop the kettle on, make yourself a cuppa and read on. Allow us to change your mind!
Massage Is Like a Buffet
The main thing to remember when booking a massage is that there are many different types of massage. Think of the massage menu as a buffet table, bursting with goodies but chances are, you won’t want to taste everything.
We’ll go into the types of massage on offer at Tonic Day Spa later on, but for now, ask yourself what you want to achieve by having a massage. This will help to narrow down the potential massage therapies suitable for you.
Forget That Negative Experience
If you have a bad haircut, does that mean you’ll never have a haircut again? Of course it doesn’t, but you’ll probably visit a different salon next time. Don’t let one bad experience put you off massage for life.
At Tonic Day Spa we encourage our massage clients to talk to us. To make your massage experience unforgettable (for all the right reasons!) we need to know about any issues you might have, what level of pressure you want your therapist to use on you, any existing medical conditions that could affect your treatment, and so on.
We have regular massage clients who don’t like certain parts of their body to be massaged, such as the feet, or calves. Unless you tell us, we won’t be aware of this – and you won’t enjoy your massage.
Communication between client and therapist is the main ingredient when it comes to enjoying your treatment with us.
Why Do You Want a Massage?
As mentioned at the beginning of this blog, with so many different massages to choose from, it’s always good to ascertain your WHY before booking your appointment. Common reasons to get a massage include:
- Stress relief and relaxation
- Help with sleeping
- Post-event/training sports recovery
- A treat!
- General joint aches and pains
Your past bad experience may have been down to having a sports massage without realising it, when really all you wanted was to relax and unwind.
What’s On the Massage Menu?
At Tonic Day Spa we have a number of different massage treatments, and we’re 100% confident that we can find the right one for you.
Ritual Therapies
All of our Ritual Therapies are created by salon owner, Julia Ball, from her vast experience of massage around the world.
Our OTO CBD ritual is targeted to what your body needs, by asking you to choose your massage oil. Your body will tell you instinctively what it needs, which will result in either a Balance, Focus, or Amplify CBD massage.
The Urban Ritual is an holistic top-to-toe therapy, which includes balancing of the chakras and reiki, as well as a relaxing massage.
The Senses Ritual will leave you feeling calm, relaxed, and peaceful as your therapist works on the Sen line energy in the body to restore and repair.
Enjoy warm oils being brushes onto the skin during the Tranquillity Ritual, and relax as your therapist uses traditional techniques to relieve muscular stress and tension.
Massage Therapies
Hot Stone Massage
A customer favourite performed using volcanic stones heated to 56 degrees. Described as “more than just a massage” a hot stone treatment will melt your body and soothe your mind.
Hydrotherm Massage
The water-based massage where you don’t get wet! Let the cushions of warm water support your body as your muscles begin to relax. Hydrotherm massage is suitable for pregnant women too.
Swedish Massage
Traditional Swedish Massage is a full body massage using long strokes of effleurage and deep manipulation to help relieve muscle stress and tension relaxing you and your body. Pressure can be adapted to your preference – light, medium, or firm.
Indian Head Massage
Performed fully clothed and seated, for over a thousand years Indian head massage has been a part of family tradition in India. Benefits include increased relaxation and stress relief. The massage will also improve the condition of the scalp, hair, and general state of health. Treatment includes massage to the upper back, shoulders, neck, scalp, and face, using hot oil.
Specialist Massage Treatments
Corrective Massage
This treatment works upon knots and areas of sensitivity within the muscle, ligaments and surrounding tissues. Corrective Massage is particularly recommended for athletes and sportsmen/women and specific muscular problems.
Deep Tissue Full Body Massage
Deep tissue massage is a massage technique which involves applying pressure to target the inner layers of your muscles and connective tissues. This helps to break up scar tissue that forms following an injury and reduce tension in muscles, ligaments, and surrounding tissues. Unlike other massage techniques that focus on relaxation, deep tissue massage helps to treat muscle pain and improve stiffness
Back Manipulation & Remedial Massage
Carried out by Jonathon Edwards Remedial Masseur L.C.S.P.(Assoc). Jon uses skeletal manipulation to help correct general back problems and pain. Sciatica, frozen shoulder, wry neck, joint sprain, strains, postural problems and sports injuries can all benefit from this treatment.
Combined Remedial Manipulation & Corrective Massage
This combination of therapies assists in educating your body to retain correct position and function. Remedial massage manipulates the skeleton whilst Corrective massage works on the muscles, ligaments, and soft tissues.
