Dermaplaning is the top “BUZZ WORD” in the Beauty Industry at the moment, with it’s huge celebrity following and amazing results it’s clear to see why.
So I’m sure you’ve all heard of Dermaplaning or at least seen some random pictures which resemble someone having their face shaved, but if you’re still in the “wait? what is she talking about” group, then I’m here to explain all you need to know about Dermaplaning to achieve that radiant flawless skin.

What is Dermaplaning?
Dermaplaning is all about skin rejuvenation! treating fine lines, uneven skin tone, open pores,
pigmentation, dry skin and that unwanted facial hair we are all so concerned about. Using a surgical scalpel, dead skin and fine vellus hair (peach fuzz) are gently scraped away from the skin’s surface giving clients immediate brighter, smoother skin.
It is a form of deep exfoliation that improves cell turnover and healing, as well as allowing better
penetration of skin care products, leaving the skin more radiant and healthier looking.

Who is Dermaplaning suitable for?
Dermaplaning is suitable for most skin types, even those with sensitive skin as there are no harsh chemicals being used.
Dermaplaning is also a great option for clients who are prone to breakouts as Dermaplaning removes the excess fine hair which are known for trapping dirt, oils and dead skin cells in our pores which are the main causes of blemishes.
As with all treatments there are some contraindications so if you suffer with severe rosacea or active acne I’m afraid this treatment is not for you as it may cause you irritation.

How soon will I see results?
One of the best parts about Dermaplaning is the immediate results! Many first time Dermaplaners say their skin has never looked so radiant and smooth.

What are the benefits of Dermaplaning?
 Minimises fine lines and wrinkles
 Allows skincare products to penetrate deeper
 Removes peach fuzz that traps oil and dirt
 Instant radiance and glow
 Smooth, flawless skin
 Evens skin tone
 Reduces breakouts
 Lightens acne scaring
 Pain free with no downtime
 Unblocks black heads making pores appear smaller
 Speeds up cell renewal
 Makeup will look flawless

Does dermaplaning hurt?
No! I can imagine the thought of using a scalpel in a beauty treatment is quite a scary one, but you can rest assured that it’s not painful at all, in fact its actually quite relaxing.

Will my hair grow back darker?
This is one of the most popular questions I get asked, but No! It is physiologically impossible for your vellus hair to grow back thicker.
The fine, translucent downy hair on your face is called vellus hair (peach fuzz)and is found on your face, earlobes, chest and back. The follicle of the vellus hair lies very close to the skin’s surface, where as terminal hairs have much deeper follicles resulting in far coarser hair and grows on your head, underarms, pubic area and brows.
Because vellus hair is so fine and different from terminal hair,  it DOES NOT make it grow back thicker or feel stubbly after Dermaplaning.
Men’s facial hair is terminal hair, ours is vellus.  As we age, we get more peach fuzz. Many women remove it regularly with threading, waxing and now dermaplaning!

Post treatment
Because your skin will be more vulnerable after dermaplaning I recommend using a moisturizer that contains hyaluronic acid to help repair your skin and keep it hydrated. Your skin will also be more susceptible to the sun so PLEASE use an SPF. Wearing sunscreen is the best skincare advice i could give anyone whether you’ve just had a Dermaplaning treatment or not.
