Why We’ve Had to Put Our Prices Up

But we believe in keeping things transparent here at Tonic, so pop the kettle on and let’s have a quick catch-up.

Running a salon isn’t what it used to be. Over the past year, we’ve seen a steady rise in everything from energy bills to insurance, product costs, pensions, wages, and more. And while we’ve absorbed as much of it as we can, it’s reached the point where we’ve had to make a small adjustment to our prices.

We know times are tough for everyone, and this decision hasn’t been made lightly. We’ve reviewed every treatment, checked every cost, and kept increases as minimal as possible.

The truth is, we’ve always done things a little differently at Tonic.

A Different Kind of Salon

When Julia first opened Tonic Day Spa, the vision was simple: to bring five-star treatments and spa-standard care to the local high street—without the five-star price tag. That mission still stands, even if the landscape around us has changed dramatically.

Right now, so many salons are closing. Rising costs, unreliable freelance models, and burnout are taking their toll—and we’re proud to be one of the few fully functioning, professionally staffed salons still standing strong.

We’re also VAT registered, which means 20% of every transaction goes straight to the tax man before we even begin to cover our overheads. That’s not something most home-based or freelance therapists have to factor in—but we do, because we’re running a fully compliant, professional business.

We’re a dedicated space where every detail is considered—from the warm welcome at reception to the quality of the oil used in your massage. A calm, professional environment where you can completely switch off and know you’re in safe hands.

Our team is fully employed, trained, and supported with pensions, holiday pay, and real job security—because that’s how you build a team that stays, grows, and delivers consistently brilliant care.
