After being a computer analyst/programmer for over 24 years, my work as a holistic massage therapist in the complementary health field is my second career
I spent many years dipping my toe into the bodywork field and studied at a range of weekend workshops. I finally took the plunge in 2008 and decided to make a career change into the holistic and complementary bodywork field. I was lucky enough to be accepted at the Swedish Institute College of Health Sciences located in New York City and after 16 months of full time intensive study I graduated from the with an Associate Degree in Occupational Health majoring in Massage Therapy. I trained in many forms of massage including Swedish, relaxation, deep tissue, therapeutic, sports, aromatherapy, prenatal and chair massage as well as Shiatsu and reflexology and several forms of energy work. After graduation I worked in different locations and environments in the New York Metropolitan area gaining a wide range of experiences. After 22 years living in the New York and New Jersey area I returned home to the UK in the spring of 2011.
Since arriving back in the UK I have worked as a self-employed massage therapist in a wide range of environments including offices, conferences and exhibitions. As well as working as a mobile massage therapist I work at Tonic Day Spa 2 days a week offering several forms of massage and holistic body work.
Getting to meet new people and helping them through massage therapy is what I love most – it is a passion of mine. People come through the door and put their bodies in my hands to heal and taking on that kind of responsibility with confidence that you can and will make a difference in someone’s life through touch keeps me going day to day. I am learning something new every day as no two bodies are the same and therefore no two sessions are alike.
I always inspire to adapt, to do better and work harder to help my clients with their needs so I am always looking to learn, grow and develop as a holistic therapist. To that aim I am currently looking into taking courses in lava shell massage and sound therapy both of which will add skills to my tool box and give me added variety to offer to my clients.
I never know what tomorrow holds, every day is a surprise and you learn something new with every experience. You might not have all the answers for everyone every time, but you can lead them in the right direction and offer them a helping hand – or hands – along the way.
Why not book an appointment with me at Tonic Day Spa. I promise a high standard professional service designed to meet the needs of you. As a thank you for reading I am also offering a discount for anyone who mentions the blog when booking.
